My name is Sarah May, I am a 27 year old artist, curator, writer, and graduate student from Salt Lake City, Utah. As a biracial Latina, I have often felt there was not a place for me to share and process my experiences as a girl and a woman of colour. It was not until I went to art school at the University of Utah where I started thinking and processing my identity, thinking about all the aspects that encompassed who I was, who I was forgetting, and who I wanted to be. It was through this process of creative expression I came to fully embrace my roots, my multicultural heritage, and embraced and changed the way I saw the things about myself that made me different. It is my own experiences that fuel my desire to share with other womxn and femmes of colour in the Portland area and creating a space to explore identity and empower other womxn in a space outside the expectations of Western white culture.

I will be leading and facilitating a creative expression workshop for womxn and femmes of colour in partnership with the Womxn and Femmes of Colour Healing and Support group. This workshop will be a part of my thesis fulfillment and research for my MA in Community Leadership at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah

I am looking for individuals identifying as womxn and Femmes of colour of all ethnicities, races, class, gender identities, sexual orientations, religion, and other various aspects of identity. "Womxn" and "Femmes" will be used instead of "women" in this context to be inclusive to the wide range of identities and aspects that encompass the identity of being a womxn.

This workshop is completely free of charge. Individuals are encouraged and welcome to bring any art materials and various craft items for the activities. Art and craft supplies will be provided to those participating.

There will be five total workshops that will take place the first two weekends in December.
